Factory audit

Macy's is a well-known department store chain in the United States and a subsidiary of American Eagle Outfitters (after American Eagle Outfitters acquired Macy's in 1994). 

Macy's flagship store is located at Herald Square in New York City. When Macy's opened on Seventh Avenue in 1924, it was promoted as "the world's largest store." The company also has two other national flagship stores, located at Union Square in San Francisco and State Street in Chicago. 

Macy's will first conduct an independent audit through STR, followed by a separate audit from Macy's. 

I. List of Documents Required for Macy's Human Rights Audit:

1. Work permits or attendance records, payroll sheets (past twelve months)  

2. Employee roster and individual employee files, employment contracts  

3. Business license, factory floor plan, factory regulations or employee handbook  

4. Fire inspection reports or compliance certificates, fire drill records, emergency evacuation plans, and workplace injury records  

5. Environmental protection compliance documents  

6. Government documentation regarding local minimum wage regulations  

7. Equipment safety permits (e.g., elevator operation permit, kitchen hygiene permit, etc.)  

8. Certifications for specialized workers (e.g., elevator technicians, electricians, kitchen staff, health permits, etc.)  

9. Approval from the local labor bureau regarding overtime extensions  

10. Social insurance receipts, rosters, compliance certificates, employee leave slips, and resignation records 

Consequences of Macy's failing the factory audit three times: 

First: Violation correction inspection, which may result in two possible scenarios:

Second: Correct minor violations during inspection; no intolerable violations = Acceptable.  

Third: During inspection, the factory must achieve Acceptable status; otherwise, cooperation will be terminated. Factories found with intolerable violations such as child labor or forced labor will be immediately terminated from cooperation. 

2. Purpose of Macy's factory audit:  

1. Establish a management system that meets international standards, enhancing the ability to compete positively with well-known brands;  

2. Foster positive consumer sentiment toward products;  

3. Strengthen cooperation with buyers and expand into new markets, laying the foundation for long-term development;  

4. Improve management systems, enhance employee relations, increase productivity, and thereby boost profitability;  

5. Develop new markets and customers: socially responsible companies will stand out from competitors.
