System Certification

IATF 16949:2016 (First Edition) is an innovative document that is customer-oriented and includes some integrated past customer specific requirements.

The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) first released ISO/TS 16949 (first edition) in 1999, with the aim of coordinating different assessment and certification systems in the automotive industry supply chain worldwide. To meet the needs of improvements in the automotive industry and revisions to ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949 has also been revised (second edition published in 2002 and third edition published in 2009). ISO/TS 16949 (along with supporting technical publications provided by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their respective national automotive industry associations) introduces a set of universal technologies and methods for the development of universal products and processes in the global automotive manufacturing industry.

Preparation period for the integration of ISO/TS 16949:2009 (3rd edition) into the automotive quality management system (QMS) standard. We solicited feedback from certification bodies, auditors, suppliers, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and ultimately formed IATF 16949:2016 (first edition), which will be cancelled and replace ISO/TS 16949:2009 (third edition).

IATF maintains close cooperation with ISO as a continuous liaison committee to ensure consistency with ISO 9001.
