GMI stands for Graphic Measures Internal., LTD, which was founded in July 2009. It is a specialized organization designated by Target to evaluate packaging suppliers and continuously measure packaging samples. GMI is responsible for establishing and operating a professional website, storing all packaging data, and providing reports to Target, product suppliers, and certified packaging suppliers through relevant channels.

GMI certification is actually an evaluation and certification of packaging suppliers. The main purpose of certification is to improve the packaging quality of Target products and to help its printing factories improve production efficiency and stabilize printing colors, which is tailored to their specific needs.

For printing companies, through GMI certification, in addition to obtaining orders from large foreign packaging box printing suppliers who have cooperative relationships with GMI, they can also use the standardized processes required by GMI to reduce internal printing material loss, lower costs, improve production personnel capabilities and product quality, and in this process, make various processes and equipment status transparent, promote equipment maintenance and increase production capacity. However, in the actual printing production process, printing enterprises often encounter problems such as difficulty in meeting product quality standards and difficulty in passing inspection scores due to various issues.

At present, GMI certification is also widely concerned and favored by other large retailers. Groups such as Best Buy in the United States, JCPenney, Lowe's, Sears/Kmart, etc. have successively commissioned GMI to propose certification requirements for their packaging suppliers. At the same time, GMI will also provide customized certification standards for packaging buyers based on their product characteristics. Each brand has developed a set of GMI certification standards with GMI company, and each brand's GMI certification standards have different minimum requirements for printing and packaging hardware and software, as well as slightly different on-site evaluation items.

With the increasing attention of European and American buyers to external packaging requirements, they have gradually joined the GMI supplier management system, entrusting GMI to evaluate and certify printing and packaging suppliers, and continuously control the quality of color packaging, etc. GMI certification has become the key to export orders for packaging and printing factories, and in the future, more large buyers and brand associations will require factories to pass GMI certification.

After GMI certification, there is no need for annual review. If there are consecutive quality issues, we will conduct a follow-up certification.
