Introduction to ISO3834 Welding System Certification

ISO3834 welding system certification is aimed at the special process of welding, requiring enterprises to combine design, process, production, and quality assurance to form a mature system together, in order to ensure the final quality requirements of the product. ISO3834 certification is based on ISO9000 and describes the welding quality requirements that should be included in the welding quality system, taking into account the actual application conditions of welding. ISO3834 welding certification is a mandatory quality control system requirement in certifications such as EN1090 for steel structures. Welding, as a special processing technology, must be jointly controlled throughout the entire process. Only by combining design, process, production, and quality assurance to form a mature system can the final quality requirements be guaranteed.

Components of ISO3834

ISO3834 consists of three parts:

The first part is the selection criteria for the corresponding quality requirement level, that is, according to product standards, specifications, rules or contracts, ISO 3834-2, ISO 3834-3 or ISO 3834-4 are selected for the quality requirement level.

The second part is the quality requirements for different levels, namely: ISO 3834-2 complete quality requirements, ISO 3834-3 standard quality requirements, and ISO 3834-4 basic quality requirements. When a manufacturer meets a specific quality level (such as ISO 3834-2), it can be considered that they also meet all lower quality level requirements (such as ISO 3834-3 or ISO 3834-4) without further verification.

The third part is the documents required to meet the quality requirements of each part, namely the documents required to confirm compliance with the quality requirements of ISO3834-2, ISO3834-3, or ISO3834-4.

ISO3834 is a comprehensive quality control system for welding, with the following main audit requirements:

1. Technical review and requirement review;

2. Subcontracting;

3. Welding personnel;

4. Inspection and testing personnel;

5. Equipment;

6. Welding and related activities;

7. Welding consumables;

8. Storage of base materials;

9. Post weld heat treatment;

10. Inspection and testing;

11. Non conformities and corrective measures;

12. Calibration and calibration of testing, measuring, and inspection equipment;

13. Identification and traceability;

14. Quality records

The necessity of ISO3834 certification

The welding process is a special process, and in order to ensure welding quality, ISO/TC44 has developed ISO 3834 standard for quality management and control of metal material melting welding, which specifies every aspect of the welding production process.

Similar to ISO9000, ISO3834 is not mandatory certification, but if a manufacturing enterprise strictly follows ISO 3834 for welding quality control, its product quality can be guaranteed; Obtaining ISO3834 certification can also make enterprises more competitive in the international market and easier to obtain high-quality overseas orders

Obtaining ISO3834 certification can improve the welding quality management level of enterprises, enhance the quality control system, and improve the level of welding management personnel and welding technicians

ISO3834 certification consulting cycle

The general certification consultation period is 3 to 4 months, mainly based on the negotiated certification consultation plan between both parties, the progress of enterprise rectification, welding evaluation, welder examination, and the results of non-destructive testing personnel examination

After passing the welding evaluation, welder examination, and non-destructive testing personnel examination, relevant certificates can be issued within one month.

After the system review is approved, the certificate can be issued within one month.

The preparation time is determined by the enterprise itself.

ISO3834 certification validity period

The certificate is valid for 1-3 years, depending on the company's implementation of standards, product structure, and personnel qualifications

Annual review and 3-year certificate renewal are required.

During the enterprise certificate renewal audit, the certification body can be changed, but a complete audit must be conducted according to the requirements of the initial audit.
