Basic Information

Forest certification is a process in which an independent third party verifies forest management according to established standards. It is a tool that uses market mechanisms to promote sustainable forest management, including Forest Management Certification (FM) and Chain of Custody Certification (CoC).

Standardized content

The main verification items through authorized verification agencies are Forest Management (FM) and Chain of Custody (CoC). The method evaluates the forest management performance of regions and national standards based on the principles and standards of FSC, and is applicable to the level of forest management units. The two types of verification certificates issued by FSC are as follows:

(1) Sustainable Forest Management (FM) Certificate

It is awarded to the management and all institutions in the forest area. Forest management verification mainly involves reviewing forest management plans and actual operations. Forestry institutions must protect forest ecology, water quality, wildlife habitats, and consider the needs of local populations in order to meet strict verification standards. In addition, forestry institutions must also demonstrate that their business models can be implemented for a long time in both economic and management aspects, and must undergo regular supervision and assessment.

The FSC label consists of three parts: FSC trademark, label name, and trademark license number. Each certification number starts with C - representing the Certificate Holder, followed by a 6-digit number

The FSC certification process includes the following steps:

Firstly, the enterprise needs to apply to the certification body and prepare relevant documents.

Secondly, collect and integrate forest data.

Next, evaluate the audit documents and conduct on-site audits.

After the audit is approved, a report will be prepared and reviewed before making a certification decision.

Finally, obtain the FSC certificate and the continuation and maintenance of the authorization chain. After completing the above process, the enterprise can obtain FSC certification, proving the sustainability of its forest management activities. The entire process must comply with FSC's strict standards and regulations to ensure the sustainable use of forest resources and the realization of environmental responsibility.
